Turning a Chef's
Vision Into Reality
CLIENT
Remparts House is a newly launched cookery school in Mailhac, South of France. Founded by British chef Jack, it offers immersive four-day culinary retreats, combining hands-on cooking classes, local market visits, and vineyard tours.
CHALLENGES
The main challenge was building a brand from scratch. Jack had no established identity, and we needed to create a brand and website that would promote his cookery school breaks and encourage bookings.
MY ROLE / SERVICES
I worked with Jack to create his brand identity, from the name and logo to messaging and customer experience. I designed and built the website to showcase his cookery school breaks and drive bookings.
STEP ONE
Discovery
& Strategy
To kick things off, I held a discovery session with Jack to understand his needs and goals. We dove deep into his target market, creating personas that identified key audience groups—people who wanted to learn to cook while enjoying a peaceful weekend away.
Their desires for hands-on learning, relaxation, and memorable experiences became the foundation of our approach.
STEP TWO
CX & Brand Messaging
Together, we refined Jack’s offering, improving the customer journey from inquiry to booking. We also crafted clear and inviting messaging to align with the relaxed, warm personality of the brand.
It wasn’t just about cooking; it was about creating an enriching, memorable escape.
STEP THREE
Moodboards
& Naming
I created two distinct mood boards to define the brand’s visual style. After several rounds of feedback, we settled on a look that was rustic but elegant, reflecting both the charm of Remparts House and the high-quality cooking experience.
I helped Jack choose the name "Remparts House," which tied beautifully into the history of the location.
Step four
Brand Identity
& Guidelines
I then created four to five concept designs for the logo. Jack loved one in particular which included a mark that was inspired by a distinctive old archway in his house.
Once the logo was finalised, I established a cohesive visual identity with four versions: primary, secondary, logo mark, and submark.
We locked in a colour palette of Kombu Green, Camouflage Green, Alabaster, and White. The fonts, EB Garamond and Century Gothic Pro, were chosen for their elegant yet approachable feel.
I then designed business cards, aprons, and additional branded assets, making sure the brand was consistent across all touchpoints.
Step five
Website Design & SQUARESPACE Build
The next step was structuring the website for a seamless user experience and high conversion. Built in Squarespace, it allowed Jack to easily manage updates and add new classes. I used SEO keyword research to ensure the site would be discoverable for relevant searches like "Culinary Experiences" and "Cookery Classes.
STEP Six
Engaging Content & Visuals
The content, written with the help of ChatGPT, focused on both the culinary journey and the beauty of the location. The site uses a mix of food imagery, local scenery, and snapshots of people learning, positioning the classes as both a learning opportunity and a relaxing getaway.
To make the website come alive, I sourced icons that aligned with the branding and used video footage filmed by Jack’s first guests to create a video testimonial. Edited in Capcut, the video highlights the fun and relaxed atmosphere of the classes.
Outcome
From Vision to Reality in Six Weeks
The result? Jack’s dream of running a cookery school is now a reality. Within just six weeks, I delivered a cohesive brand, clear messaging, and a fully designed website—on time and on budget.
Jack has already started taking bookings and is now running Remparts House full-time. The branding and website are helping him attract the right audience and ensure his culinary retreats are a success.
